Oil nozzles are rated in Gallons Per Hour (GPH) to matching the heating capacity of the burner. Spray Angle to match the size and shape of the combustion chamber. Pattern Type match the mixing characteristics of the burner. Hollow sprays for smaller sizes, Solid types on larger sizes. Semisolid can be used in either application
| Motor drives the combustion air fan and the fuel unit. These motors are equipped with a manual reset which will tripped if overloaded. | |
| Electrode must be in the proper position in order to light fuel. Over time the tips will burn away causing the gap to change. Small invisible cracks in the porcelain insulators can cause intermittent operation or weak sparks. Ignitor Drawing. | |
Transformer | Connected directly to the electrode to create the ignite spark. It generates 10,000 Volts DC at low amperage from the 110 Volt supply to create a spark to jump between the electrodes. |
| The fuel unit or oil pump draws oil from the tank to deliver and steady supply of oil to the nozzle. As these pumps wear, the oil pressure can drop, collapsing the shape and capacity of the flame. Weak regulator can continue to stream oil after the pump has stop and continue to burn, booting up the combustion chamber. | |
Flame
Relay | Flame Relay receives the signal from the scanner. A manual reset is required if a signal is not receive for a fix delay at startup or immediately during running operation. Resetting the burner multiple times can cause a dangerous buildup of unburnt fuel in the combustion chamber. |
| Flame scanners detect infrared light from a proper flame in the combustion chamber and send a signal to the relay operate. Flame must be detected within the allowed time or the burner will lock out. | |
The draft damper controls the speed a which the hot flue gases pass through the heat exchanger. If the draft is too high then heat will be wasted as it races up the chimney instead of exchanging heat to the supply air. Draft should be a set a 0.02"W.C.- 0.03" W.C.using a draft gauge.
| Oil from the tank is filtered to protect the fuel unit from contaminants. These filter will plugged with slug and wax from the oil, stopping the pump from drawing enough oil. |
